Stock Rotation for Bacteriostatic Water

BacWaterPep trade note · revised

In brief. Unopened bacteriostatic water keeps until the expiry of its lot when stored at 15–25 °C, away from light and never frozen; an opened vial is usually discarded 28 days after the first puncture (CDC). For a stock room that means rotating by expiry, asking for a minimum remaining shelf life when you order, and buying only the cover you will sell before the lot expires.

Rotate by expiry, not by arrival

Shelve each lot with its expiry date visible and pick the earliest expiry first. Two lots of one SKU mixed in a single location is where picking mistakes start — keep them apart.

Put the shelf life in the quote

Tell your sales representative the minimum remaining shelf life you accept on arrival. The quote names the lot and its expiry before you pay.

Buy the cover you will sell

Months of cover = vials on hand ÷ vials sold per month. Hold enough to avoid running out, and no more than you will move before the lot expires. The stock planner on our Volume pricing page turns monthly vials into whole kits.

What the 28 days are — and are not

  • They apply to an opened multi-dose vial, counted from its first puncture.
  • They are not the shelf life of unopened stock; that is the lot's expiry date.
  • They say nothing about the stability of anything dissolved in the water.
